About:
Daniel Kilkelly Gavere was born in El Torejon, Spain while his father was serving in the US Military as a meteorologist for the Airforce. It was in high school that he developed a deep passion for whitewater kayaking and made it into a career as one of the first full time kayakers in the sport. Fast forward to 2007 after moving to Hood River to follow his Kiteboarding, Biking, and Kayaking passions he was introduced to SUP. Immediately he fell in love with the connection to the water and feeling it gave him. He wondered what it would be like to try Whitewater while standing on the board and after a few sessions on his local rivers he realized the fun and the challenge it offered. He immediately started dreaming of where he could go and what he could do and since has been pushing the limits of the sport to find his dreams a reality. Not only is Whitewater SUP a passion for Dan but he enjoys racing and was a top ten finisher in the very first Battle of the Paddle Race in Dana Point California in 2009.
Competition ranking you’re most proud of:
I don’t prioritize any particular contest results but more importantly to me is the fact I helped whitewater SUP become a respected niche in the sport by being one of the first to get on the river and charge whitewater standing up on a board. If I had to pick one result it would have to be 1st Overall Sup Champion at the 2017 Outdoor Mix festival in France because it was a combination of whitewater, downwind and sprint racing and for that I am happy to be a well-rounded paddler.
Your favourite contest and why: My favorite contest is the GoPro Mountain Games in Vail Colorado at the beginning of June each year. As far as I know it was the First ever contest to offer cash prizes for whitewater SUP and we have some amazing courses on a very technical and challenging creek.
My Favorite SUP adventure so far has been to explore the Soca River Valley in Slovenia because ever since I heard of the this river 20 years ago(as a kayaker) I dreamed of paddling on its crystal clear water.
